HIPA NEWS and EVENTS 2008 to 2009
Sunday. September 20, 2009:
- The 82nd Annual Convention for Hair International, PA was held at The Inn at Reading, in Wyomissing, PA.
While the Convention attendance numbers were down from previous years, it didn't lack the spirit, and it was as informative as ever.
The focus was on membership and how to increase membership and also education.
We welcomedtwo new members to the Convention and look forward to their participation in making Hair International, PA grow. They had lots of information to offer and we are proud to have them as members.
John Payne offered us views and news from the Barber Board and answered questions from the members.
It was a very successful Convention and we all look forward to a bigger and better 2009-2010.
Congratulations to John Christopher for winning the Franz Singer Award and to William Fraser for winning the Alfonso "Pappy" Porreca Award. Both awards were given out by President Steve Kopp.

JULY 9, 2009 NEWSLETTER:
Greetings on behalf of your Executive Board.
Your Executive Board held our latest meeting in June to continue the planning of our annual Convention that will be held at The Inn at Reading the weekend of September 19 - 20, 2009. We had so much fun at our last Convention that we decided to do it again!
Please join us in congratulating two of our members on their recent appointments. In april, John E. Payne, Jr. was sworn in as a member of the State Board of Barber Examiners, and in May , John Christopher was elected to the position of Recording Secretary for the Pennsylvania Legislative Council of Organized Barbers, (PLCOB). It is nice to have two fine leaders represent us on these important Boards.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and I look forward to seeing you all in September in Reading.

Attendees: Steve Kopp, John Christopher, and Scott Kopp. Absent: Nedra Weaver amd William Fraser.
Meeting called to Order at 9:50am, and opened with a prayer.
Meeting Minutes from previous meeting were amended as follows:
- State convention motion changed to 1st V. President, seconded by Steve Kopp and approved.
Treasurer's Report:
- There are 6 member's dues still outstanding.
- Motion to approve by Scott Kopp, Seconded by John Christopher. Motion approved.
Website:
- John has been supplying Nedra with information to be placed on the site. The site needs to be updated with current and additional information.
- Motion to approve by Scott Kopp, seconded by John Christopher. Motion approved.
State Convention:
- Location to be: The Inn at Reading.
- Dates considered: Weekend of September 12th and the 13th, or the 19th and 20th.
- Presentation Considerations: Franz Singer or Mike Vozzelli on hair pieces and "Hair Fusion" treatment.
- Motion to approve by John Christopher, seconded by Scott Kopp. Motion approved.
PLCOB Committee: (Bill, Scott, Vince, John P. - Chair)
- John Payne appointed to the PA Barber Board and a new Chairperson must be appointed to the PLCOB.
- Discussion was held as to whom to support as possible replacement for John Payne.
Good of the Association:

- State Dues are surrently due.
- March 10th deadline for newsletter to be sent out to our members.

It is with great pleasure we introduce to you our newest member of Hair International, PA, Cynthia Simmons from Duncannon, PA. Many of you already know Cindy or at least know of her. While owning her own shop, Cindy is also a Barber Teacher at the Barber Styling Institute in Camp Hill, PA. Cindy will be assigned to the Hershey Chapter. Please join us in making her feel welcome.
NOVEMBER, 2008
At the State Convention it was reported by John Payne, Chairman of the PLCOB that a joint meeting between the State Board of Barber Examiners and the State Board of Cosmetology was held in September to discuss the differences between the two Boards, and maybe how they could work together to improve both professions. There is no intent to join the two entities but to share ides. The first meeting went very well, and a second meeting is scheduled tentatively for February, 2009. If you have any topics that should be discussed or any concerns, please contact any member of the Legislative Committee.
On Monday, November 10, 2008 the PLCOB held their semi annual meeting. It was well attended by members of the Council and there was representation from the State Correctional Institutions and the PA Cosmetology Schools. They have both agreed to continue to have representation at the meetings. It was suggested that we meet more than semi annually so we can continue to move forward. We will begin to work on updating the current bylaws for the PLCOB and the PCC.

SEPTEMBER 28, 2008
On Sunday, September 28, 2008 Hair International, PA held their 81st Annual State Conference in Reading, PA. The Conference was well attended and there was also a demonstration by Diamond Rose on how to care for your shears and by Hope Latimore on hair extensions.
Another topic of discussion at the conference was membership, and how we can increase membership in Hair International, PA. It was suggested that members who are senior members perhaps entertain the idea of an apprenticeship, where you can give back some of the knowledge and skills you learned and pass them on to someone who has an interest in getting into our profession.
